Valuation of Ecosystem Goods and Services

Batker Consulting manages and maintains the VEGS database. VEGS contains curated ecosystem service values for different land cover types across the world. It identifies the unique features of each ecosystem service value such as the size of the ecosystem that provides it; proximity to population centers, landmarks or geographical features; valuation methods employed; value types; and dozens of other features to characterize and value the production of ecosystem services. Although it is a live database, which is constantly growing as new studies are incorporated into it, as of 2022 it contained over 4,000 values corresponding to over 21 ecosystem services across more than a dozen land cover types.
