Policy Advancement

Batker helped change policy at the World Bank (improving environmental assessments and the adoption of an indigenous people’s policy), nationally helping FEMA adopt ecosystem service values for post disaster mitigation, and through six invited presentations at the White House, he helped the U.S. update benefit cost analyses across 10 major agencies, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Briceno and Batker have many examples of state and local policy improvements including funding mechanisms for state parks, the economics for Louisiana's multi-billion dollar sediment diversions, levee setbacks and upgrades, and multiple stormwater/stream restoration project.
